Summer is finally here! That means barbeques, beaches and the feeling of blissful eternity that comes with hot days that stretch slowly into warm nights. The weather can even seem contagious, influencing everyone to kick back and relax. Chilled out attitudes seem to be especially alluring to those in the wonderful world of retail. This summer it seems that fashion is taking a trip back in time to the 19070’s, an era of crazy colors and relaxed silhouettes. A time when slinky dresses, high-waisted jeans and tie-dyed tees were the height of cool and jelly sandals were “happeningâ€Â. Today’s designers have embraced flower child fashion and are giving a nostalgic nod to a trend as well as a crucial historical period. Designers like Matthew Williamson and Tibi are creating flirty dresses inspired by the psychedelic prints, easy shapes and natural materials commonly used in the past. Lines such as Pirates Booty have adopted these groovy styles and are featuring sexy swimsuit cover-ups in light cottons with intricate crochet details.

Designer jeans like Ditto and JBrand are rising to the occasion as well, with high-waisted jeans and shorts complete with square pockets and bell-bottoms. Tie-dye is making a come back as well, as designers like Miu Miu are dipping everything from dresses to shoes in multicolor madness. But probably the most surprising retro remix is the Jelly sandal. This plastic is summers hottest material, as even haute couture houses such as Givenchy are creating new interpretations on the old-school shoe. Everything from jelly gladiator sandals to slides and open toed flats are proving themselves as hot commodities for the true trendsetter. These easy styles have grown like poppies in a vast fashion field, mesmerizing fashionistas from everywhere. Like those beloved summer days, though, they wont be around forever. So get off your lotus leaf.ÂÂ
