Cool, sleek, and incognito. Summer’s just around the corner and it’s about that time to add the fashion accessory that not only helps protect those gorgeous orbs rolling around in your head, but also adds just the right touch to the right outfit. Whether you call them specs, stunna shades, hater blockers, locs, or just plain ol’ shades, sunglasses have become a classic, timeless piece that everyone should own. They range in a variety of different styles but the two that no one can seem to get enough of are aviators and vintage.
Aviators were made to protect the pilots in the U.S. Air Force back in the 1930s but since then they’ve become a fashion statement for the everyday consumer. The sleek frame adds dimension and attitude to any face with a bit of that Top Gun edge. The lenses generally have a gradient coating that slowly changes color from top to bottom. The classic type resembles the traditional pair used in the air force however Ray Ban holds the exact style for being the original creators. The polarized type is the most popular with a thin metal frame and lenses that block out horizontal light. The mirrored type actually acts as a mirror and reflects the image shown in the lens. In other words, the person you may think you’re having a direct eye contact conversation with may actually be checking themselves our in your stunna shades, lol. Aviators are light-weight are can be seen on the faces of your favorite celebrities including Angeline Jolie, Brad Pitt, Martine McCutcheon, Alicia Keyes, Ashlee Simpson, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears and many more.
Vintage sunglasses are the classic oversized hater blockers that achieve the “Star Status†look us L.A. natives can really relate to. In this case, the bigger, the better. Vintage shades come in many different varieties. On one side of the timeline you’ll have the cat-eyed look of the 40s and 50s and on the other side you’ll have the flat top, rounded bottom with the loud and bold colors from the 70s and 80s that are oh so in! There’s a vintage frame that can fit everyone’s personality and what better way to feel bold and beautiful than with a strong strut and cool shades.
Normally I believe in shopping for less but sunglasses are an accessory that is ok to splurge on…if you can. Ray Ban and Christian Dior in your high end boutiques would be a great treat for a good month’s work in the office or if you would rather have the look for less try eBay, Forever21, or the sunglasses kiosk stand at your local mall. And always remember, my fellow fashionistas, keep your friends close and your hater blockers even closer.
