This fall, fall into the comfort of your own bedroom wear. Rock a robe. This autumn, fashion is relaxing into styles inspired by men’s smoking jackets and pajamas. Shapeless silk and satin coats of various lengths are draped and fastened over slouchy slacks to create a look that is both comfy and effortlessly sexy. A stark contrast to the structured silhouette of military wear that is also popular this fall, the robed look will make you feel right at home in your own clothes.
Designer Tuleh (above left) has been influenced by kimonos in interpreting this fresh look, infusing their contemporary women’s wear with patterned materials often used in traditional Japanese robes. Lanvin and Ann Demeulemeester have given the robe an edge with asymmetrical tailoring and alternative fabrics, while others, such as Cynthia Rowley and 3.1 Phillip Lim have stayed true to the sleep wear’s traditionally simple form. Gloomy days will no longer be a bummer, because now when you curl up on the couch, you’ll be curling up in style.
