I don’t wear prints, ever, they scare me. I will wear any shade of any color as long as it’s not patterned.
Come rain or shine, workday or weekend color blocking sees me through. And not the matchy matchy kind, I’m talking the subtle nuances of shades of grey, a dove grey dress with slate colored flats and grey marl tights.
Prints are for the foot- loose and fancy free, they are for those who flirt with fashion. A leopard print today? Floral tomorrow? Stripes for the weekend? No thanks! Fashion is a serious business. I buy my clothes to last more than one season and patterns are the fastest way to age your wardrobe. I like the comfort of single colors I know how to use them and they work for me.
Years of wearing striped shirts to school and floral dresses of the Laura Ingalls variety now make me queasy when a see polka dots.
But a wardrobe without paisley and checks doesn’t have to be boring. I add depth with fabrics. Tweed dresses, cable knit sweaters, and hounds tooth jackets all add flair and get to know your colors. Black will not see you through.

Your view on fashion seems rather limited. Prints do not age your wardrobe, fashion is about having fun and experimenting and what better way to do that than with prints. Have you ever seen a season where florals weren’t a trend? They’re classic, as are stripes. I think having a wardrobe without prints sounds kind of boring.

I understand where your trying to go with this but essentially the truly fashionable are those who really know which key items to buy that they can reinvent every couple of seasons. Fashion is ever changing, you can’t be afraid of wearing certain things just because the print might go out of style. Try a simple plaid, still classic. If you’re really good, you’ll learn to embrace prints THE RIGHT WAY in order to make your wardrobe more eye catching.

Aw, Belle, do your thing…I know a certain ce”web”rity who wears mostly gem sweaters, and gold stretch pants and she’s frikin famous, and people love (yes, perhaps ironically) her style. My point here is, if you puke looking at yourself in zebra stripes, don’t wear ‘em. However, you’ve got to share more of your secrets about color pairing. I would love to see another article on how to make this non-patterned artistic limit exciting and see some pictures. what sort of accessories do you wear? is there a photo of this fashion done well that you could blog?
